We arrived in Florence around 7 in the morning, dropped our stuff off at the hostel and started the city with a bang. 
We went straight to the Duomo to try to avoid lines. This cathedral is the biggest I've seen in Italy so far i think. It's massive. The facade on the church is very intricate, sculptures all over. The whole cathedral is white and green stripes... kind of looks like a church in pjs.We paid a few euros and started up the stairs, all 463 of them. About half way you can walk in and see the fresco that is inside the duomo. It is very detailed with a contrast of heaven and hell.
after that you start walking in between the double layered dome. At the top there was a magnificent view of all of the red roofs that make up the city. You could see it all... distant churches, mountains and country side. Well worth the money.
After the duomo we went to the duomo museum. It consisted of all the original sculptures and stuff that is around and in the cathedral. It also had Michelangelo's Pieta... a famous unfinished sculpture of his, and Donetalo's Mary Magdalene. And the panel's from the Gates of Paradise, Very cool.
Afterwards we climbed the tower of the Santa Maria del Fiore... very similar to the Duomo. Then we went inside the cathedral which was cool, but not the best I have seen. The baptistry was very neat though... gold mosaics all over.
Later we crossed the Ponte Vecchio bridge to see another church that was alright.
We had lunch there and came back to the hostel to check in. Spent the rest of the night there. I hung out with some people in our room from brazil, had dinner and stuff. It was 3euro bottle of wine night here at the hostel.
After walking all around florence, 977 stairs, and seeing work from half of the ninja turtles I would say it was a good day. :)
